Canada raced to a pair of silver medals at the world short-course swimming championships on Wednesday.

Kylie Masse of LaSalle, Ont., picked up one in the women's 100-metre backstroke, the event in which she won bronze at last summer's Rio Olympics.

And Yuri Kisil, Markus Thormeyer, Michelle Williams and Sandrine Mainville raced to second place in the mixed 4x50 freestyle relay.

Penny Oleksiak of Toronto, whose four-medal performance was one of the highlights of the Rio Games, broke her own Canadian record in the 100 freestyle in both the heats and semifinals Wednesday.
