Canadian Elisabeth Vathje won the opening race of the women's skeleton World Cup season on Friday on the track that hosted the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
The Calgary native had a two-run time of one minute 49.25 seconds. It was her second World Cup gold medal, the other coming in Calgary two years ago.
Jacqueline Loelling of Germany was second in 1:50.09 while Tina Hermann, also of Germany, finished third in 1:50.11.
Ottawa's Mirela Rahneva placed fifth and Jane Channell of Calgary was 16th.
The next women's skeleton World Cup stop is Dec. 17 in Lake Placid, New York.
