Ontario judge could decide whether Cleveland logo can be used in Toronto

lundi 17 octobre 2016

As Cleveland gets set to take on the Toronto Blue Jays in game three of the American League Championship Series, a Toronto court will a hear a legal challenge to bar the team from using its name and logo in Ontario.

Lawyers for indigenous activist Douglas Cardinal say team members shouldn't be allowed to wear their regular jerseys, the logo shouldn't be broadcast and the team should be referred to as "the Cleveland team" rather than the Cleveland Indians.

The challenge comes on the grounds the team name and logo are based on outdated and offensive stereotypes.

The logo, called Chief Wahoo, is a toothy cartoon man with red skin and a feather in his headband.

Cleveland leads the ALCS 2-0, with Game 3 scheduled for tonight in Toronto.
