Canadian cyclists capture double gold at Pan Am Track Championships

Canadian cyclists continued the country's medal streak on Saturday of the Pan Am Track Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico, raking in three more medals – including two gold.

On Saturday, Adrien Caves had a perfect record in the first five of the six races in the men's omnium event, giving him a strong lead heading into the final race. The Vancouver-native finished third in the points race to win the overall title with 246 points.

Guatemala's Julio Padilla finished second overall with 228 points, followed by U.S. cyclist Zak Kovalcik at 208 points.

Jasmin Glaesser gave Canada it's second gold medal on Day 4, taking first place in the women's points race, tallying 37 points. Canadian teammate Ariane Bonhomme took bronze in the same event; a score of 24 put her just two points behind silver medallist Arlenis Sierra of Cuba.

"It was a relatively small field with only 13 riders, so that makes for a tactical race," Glaesser said. "Having Ariane out there allowed us to play a strategy and have two cards to play.

"You don't always get that opportunity, and I'm glad we were able to come out of the race with two medals."

Canada has a total of nine podium finishes through Saturday's events, with action set to conclude on Sunday.
