Ottawa celebrates Canadian Olympians and Paralympians

mercredi 2 novembre 2016

Ottawa welcomed more than 250 Canadian athletes and coaches to celebrate their achievements at the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Olympians and Paralympians began their day at the University of Ottawa and the Centre sportif de Gatineau, where they interacted with local communities.

The athletes spent the first part of their day encouraging the youth of the nation to participate in physical activities and signing autographs.

The excitement continued as Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, hosted a luncheon where Olympians and Paralympians received their Rio 2016 bling.

"On behalf of all Canadians, the government of Canada is proud to host our Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic athletes and their coaches to celebrate their accomplishments this past summer," Qualtrough said.

What's next? The House of Commons where the Canadian athletes were honoured by all members of Parliament.

Yes, that means Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The Canadian selfie game was strong.

While were talking about Ottawa, Olympic gold medallist Erica Wiebe had the Goulbourn Recreation Complex in Stittsville named Erica Wiebe Gymnasium.

Pretty cool, eh?
