It was a jam-packed weekend of high-performance sport around the world, with many Canadian athletes in action, including a star-studded field at the first short track World Cup event of the season in Calgary.
Here's a look at what you may have missed.
Short track season begins in Calgary
When you reach speeds up to 50 km/h on ice, you're bound to lose control every once in awhile. Unfortunately for Charles Hamelin, one of these slip-ups resulted in a DNF in the men's 500-metre quarter-final on Saturday.

Samuel Girard stepped up in his teammate's absence, capturing gold in a brilliant skate.

The women's 500m also featured it's share of crashes — including one in the final, where this pileup resulted in a Canadian disqualification as well as a Canadian silver medal.

Tough weekend for figure skaters
With this past weekend's Rostelecom Cup, we've reached the midway point of the Grand Prix of Figure Skating season. Unfortunately for Canadian skaters, it wasn't the most successful event, as ice dance pair Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje were the only Canucks to reach the podium.
However, it could have been much worse.
Just ask Julia Lipnitskaia. The Russian star suffered a knee injury that forced her from her free skate and had fans in the crowd in tears.

Lipnitskaia wasn't the only skater whose free skate went off the rails.
If you can think of a worse time to get a nosebleed, men's skater Alexander Majorova would love to hear it. Here he is, battling through one during his free skate in Moscow on Saturday.

Marchant makes waves
Lanni Marchant had quite an up-and-down week — the Canadian Olympian got some bad news from Athletics Canada, but on Sunday she blazed to the fastest time ever by a Canadian woman at the New York City Marathon and finished seventh.
Four Nations Cup ends on sour note
The Canada's national women's hockey team cruised to an undefeated record in the round-robin of the tournament in Finland, but were upended by their rivals from the U.S., dropping the gold-medal game 5-2.
