A tough start to the season for the Calgary Flames became harder to digest with Wednesday's news of leading scorer Johnny Gaudreau's broken finger.
Gaudreau, 23, left Tuesday night's 1-0 victory over Minnesota at 4:08 of the third period but didn't return after taking a slash to the wrist. He will have surgery later Wendesday.
The five-foot-nine, 157-pound forward scored the game's only goal and tops the Flames this season with 11 points on five goals and six assists in 17 games.
#Flames have five goals in past four games. Johnny Gaudreau scored three of them, assisted on another. He was just starting to roll.

The native of Salem, N.J., signed a six-year contract extension worth $40.5 million US on Oct. 10 after scoring 64 points in his rookie season and posting career highs in goals (30) and points (78) last year.
Calgary is sixth in the seven-team Pacific Division with a 6-10-1 record, having scored just 40 goals while allowing a Western Conference-high 59.
