Here are some of the top Canadians to watch on Thursday at the Paralympics:
Paddling for the podium
Christine Gauthier and Erica Scarff have a chance to win medals in the inaugural para-canoe event at the Games. Gauthier, who paddles in the KL2 event, competes at 8:16 a.m. ET while Scarff's KL3 final starts at 8:52 a.m. ET.
Can Lakatos net a hat trick?
Brent Lakatos can win a third medal in Rio when he competes in the 800-metre T53 final at 6:01 p.m. ET.
As well, Guillaume Ouellet races in the 5000 T13 final at 9 a.m. ET while Diane Roy vies for a medal in the 5000 T54 final at 4:30 p.m. ET.
Swimming heats up
Several Canadian medal threats compete in preliminary heats Thursday morning for medal opportunities later in the day. Three to keep an eye on are:
- Katarina Roxon: 100 butterfly S9 heat at 8:43 a.m. ET; final at 4:36 p.m. ET
- Benoit Huot: 400 freestyle S10 heat at 9:04 a.m. ET; final at 4:57 p.m. ET
- Aurelie Rivard: 400 freestyle S10 heat at 9:25 a.m. ET; final at 5:07 p.m. ET
