Jamaica's relay gold secures Usain Bolt's unprecedented triple-triple.

Bolt anchored the Jamaican men's relay team to gold — his ninth in total — to complete a never-seen-before record of first place finishes in the 100, 200 and 100-metre relay three Olympics in a row. Japan won the silver in the relay race with Canada earning the bronze after the Americans were disqualified for an exchange violation.

Here, from left to right, are Andre De Grasse, Brendon Rodney, Akeem Haynes and Aaron Brown on the track before their bronze medal bump from fourth.

Race walker Evan Dunfee lost a fight for 3rd.

Dunfee's race came down to the wire after a collision with Hirooki Arai of Japan in the final two kilometres of the 50 kilometre-long event.

Both walkers got up and finished with Arai slipping across the line just 14-100ths of a second ahead of the Canadian. Athletics Canada appealed and, for a time, Dunfee held the bronze until a counter appeal had the decision reversed. That's silver medallist Jared Tallent of Australia on the ground behind Dunfee.

French race walker Yohann Diniz had an especially rough race. The 50-kilometre world record holder collapsed mid-race with stomach pains but got up and finished.

Cheruiyot was on fire in the women's 5,000m.

Kenya's Vivian Cheruiyot won the gold medal in the 5,000 Friday night after making up considerable ground on a fading pre-race favourite Almaz Ayana of Ethiopia, who started the race with a commanding lead.

Show jumper Eric Lamaze won the bronze atop Fine Lady 5 on Friday.

Canada's most decorated Olympic jumper had the fastest time in the six-person jump-off but settled for third after pulling his only rail of the competition.

Lamaze made headlines in Canada but it was British show jumper Nick Skelton (pictured) who stole the show, claiming his first individual gold medal with a commanding performance atop Big Star. The 58-year-old rider, who already has a silver medal from London 2012, teared up on the podium, which he shared with Lamaze and Sweden's Peder Fredricson, who rode clear to take silver.

Tory Nyhaug was caught in a tight race for bronze.

The B.C. BMX racer, far right, battled through his heats but couldn't land on the Olympic podium in the final Friday. American Connor Fields claimed the gold followed by Jelle van Gorkom of Netherlands and Carlow Alberto Ramirez Yepes of Columbia with bronze.
