It may only be October, but winter sports made their return in a big way this weekend. Canadians and other international stars were in action across the globe, from the figure skating rink in Chicago to the slopes in Austria.
Here's a look back at what you may have missed this weekend in the world of high-performance sports.
Canadian duo golden
The first Grand Prix of Figure Skating event of the season was a golden one for Canada's Julianne Seguin and Charlie Bilodeau at Skate America in Chicago on Saturday.

The Canadian pair recorded a total score of 197.31, vaulting the Quebec skaters from Friday's third-place result (66.49) in the short program to first on Saturday.
Seguin, 19, and Bilodeau, 23, landed an impressive triple twist along with a side-by-side triple toe-double toe in their gold-medal performance.
This is the best result for Seguin and Bilodeau on the Grand Prix circuit after winning bronze in two events last season.
In other Canadian action at Skate America, Gabrielle Daleman finished just off the podium in fourth while Nam Nguyen posted a personal best in the men's short program on the way to a sixth-place finish.
Japan's Shoma Uno landed three quadruple jumps en route to the men's title while the American hosts were tops in the women's and ice dance events. Ashley Wagner won the women's title, while brother and sister duo Alex and Maia Shibutani took ice dance gold.

Slopes are open
The alpine skiing World Cup also began this weekend, and two of the sport's biggest stars picked up right where they left off. Lara Gut, the overall women's World Cup champion last season, captured the first giant slalom event, while Alexis Pinturault held off Marcel Hirscher for the men's win.
Marie-Michele Gagnon was the only Canadian skier in competition over the weekend and skied to a 17th-place finish in her season debut.
The competition also marked the return of Olympic and world giant slalom champion Ted Ligety. The American returned to the slopes nine months after tearing the ACL in his right knee in a training accident. He finished fifth.
Medals still to be found in the pool
It wasn't all winter sports this weekend — the pool is still open. Canada's Katerine Savard swam to bronze at a FINA World Cup event on Friday in Singapore.
The Olympic bronze medallist from Pont-Rouge, Que., swam the 100-metre butterfly in 57.24 seconds, just behind Olympic champion Katinka Hosszu of Hungary (56.02), and Jeannette Ottesen of Denmark (56.08).
