Four Canadians will attempt to regain pre-Olympic form at the penultimate Diamond League event of the season.
Leading the way is Mo Ahmed, who faded down the stretch in the 5,000-metre race at the Rio Olympics to lose his grip on a potential bronze medal. The Canadian record holder likely has the 13-minute barrier in his sights.
Melissa Bishop will try to improve upon fourth-place finishes in Rio and at last week's Diamond League competition in Lausanne, Switzerland. The Eganville, Ont., runner missed a bronze medal in Brazil by 13-100ths of a second.
Meanwhile, Toronto pole vaulter Shawn Barber has struggled mightily of late, placing 10th at the Rio Olympics and failing to reach 5.65 metres in Diamond League action last week. His personal best is 5.93.
Phylicia George, who will race in the 100 hurdles, probably arrived in Zürich with the most confidence, coming off her victory at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Poland on Sunday, where the Markham, Ont., resident's time of 12.88 seconds matched her winning time at the Canadian Olympic trials in July.
CBC Sports' coverage of the Diamond League continues Sept. 9 in Brussels.
