The outfielder formerly known as B.J. Upton is in his second season with San Diego and has also played for Atlanta and Tampa Bay, where he spent his first eight big-league seasons.
Upton, who is the older brother of Detroit outfielder Justin Upton, will be able to make a quick transition to his new team. The Blue Jays are hosting the Padres in a three-game series that began on Monday night with a 4-2 Toronto win.
